Repair By Material

Different material, different fix —
we know the difference

Repairing a concrete tank is nothing like fixing a plastic one, and steel repair is a trade of its own. Our technicians are trained specifically on all three. Pick your tank type below.

Concrete Tank Repair

Crack injection · Waterproofing · Structural work
  • Hairline crack injection

We inject epoxy resin or polyurethane foam into fine cracks to seal them from the inside out — stopping water loss without disturbing the structure.

  • Hydraulic cement repair

For larger structural cracks and actively leaking joints, hydraulic cement sets even underwater — plugging leaks fast before a full render is applied.

  • Waterproof rendering

Full interior re-rendering with a food-safe, KEBS-compliant waterproof compound. Restores the tank lining and prevents future seepage.

  • Fibreglass relining

When concrete is too far gone for patching, fibreglass relining gives the tank a completely new interior — extending service life by 20+ years.

  • Fitting & cover replacement

Inlet, outlet, overflow pipes, and manhole covers — we replace deteriorated fittings to prevent contamination and restore full functionality.

Concrete tank — quick facts

Tank lifespan30–50 years
Repair extends life by10–25 years
Most common issueHairline cracking
Avg. repair time1–3 days
Repair vs. replace cost20–40% of new

Common warning signs

Damp patches on exterior walls
Visible cracks on interior surface
Unexplained water level drop
Musty taste or smell in water

Plastic Tank Repair

Welding · Patch bonding · UV restoration
  • Plastic welding

For polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene tanks, we use heat welding to fuse cracks and splits — creating a bond as strong as the original material.

  • Chemical patch bonding

Specialised plastic-compatible adhesive patches for smaller cracks and punctures. Applied dry and cured before the tank is refilled.

  • UV damage repair

Sun exposure makes plastic brittle and causes chalking, warping, and micro-fractures. We treat UV-damaged sections and apply a protective coating.

  • Seal and fitting replacement

Rubber seals, inlet/outlet fittings, ball valves, and overflow connectors — all wear out before the tank itself. We replace them to stop leaks at source.

  • Thread repair & re-tapping

Stripped threaded fittings cause persistent leaks around inlets. We re-tap, re-thread, or replace the fitting entirely depending on the damage.

Plastic tank — quick facts

Tank lifespan10–20 years
Repair extends life by3–10 years
Most common issueUV degradation & fitting leaks
Avg. repair timeHalf day – 1 day
Repair vs. replace cost15–35% of new

Common warning signs

Chalky or faded exterior surface
Wet patch around inlet/outlet
Tank feels soft or deformed
Dripping even when taps are closed

Steel Tank Repair

Rust treatment · Welding · Anti-corrosion lining
  • Rust removal and treatment

Mechanical grinding, wire brushing, and chemical rust converter to eliminate active corrosion before any coating is applied. We don't paint over rust.

  • Weld patch repair

Perforated or thinned steel sections are cut out and replaced with welded patches — restoring structural integrity and stopping leaks permanently.

  • Anti-corrosion coating

Food-safe, water-approved epoxy lining applied to the full interior. Prevents future rusting and stops metallic contamination of your stored water.

  • Fibreglass interior relining

For heavily corroded tanks, fibreglass relining bypasses the steel entirely — creating a new, rust-proof interior surface with a 20+ year lifespan.

  • Seam and joint re-sealing

Welded seams and bolted joints are common weak points in steel tanks. We inspect, grind back, and re-seal every joint as part of a full repair.

Steel tank — quick facts

Tank lifespan15–30 years
Repair extends life by10–20 years
Most common issueCorrosion & seam leaks
Avg. repair time1–4 days
Repair vs. replace cost25–50% of new

Common warning signs

Rust-coloured or metallic-tasting water
Visible rust streaks on exterior
Pinhole drips at seams or welds
Tank sounds hollow or shows dents
What We Fix

The problems that bring people to us — and how bad they actually are

Not every tank problem is a crisis. Some are urgent, some can wait a week. Here's what we commonly find when we assess tanks across Kenya — and what each one means for you.

Active leak or drip

Water visibly escaping from the tank body, seams, or fittings. You're losing water every hour and the moisture is likely causing secondary damage to surroundings.

Fix Immediately

Cracks — visible or hidden

Surface cracks may look cosmetic but often run deeper. Hidden cracks are found during pressure assessment. Both cause slow water loss and contamination risk.

Fix Soon

Rust and corrosion

Iron oxide particles enter your water supply, affecting taste and potentially causing health effects over time. Exterior rust means interior corrosion is already worse.

Fix Soon

Leaking fittings & valves

Worn rubber seals, cracked pipe collars, and loose ball valves are the most common cause of tank leaks — and the cheapest to fix when caught early.

Fix Within a Month

UV & weather degradation

Plastic tanks exposed to the sun without shade become brittle and crack. The damage is gradual but cumulative — eventually causing structural failure.

Monitor & Treat

Structural settlement damage

Tanks on poorly compacted ground can shift and crack as soil settles. This is most common with large concrete tanks — foundation assessment is part of our repair.

Assess First
Honest Advice

When to repair — and when to be honest about replacing

We'd rather tell you the truth than take your money for a repair that won't last. Here's how we think about the repair vs. replace decision.

Repair makes sense when…

  • The tank structure is fundamentally sound
  • Damage is localised — cracks, leaks, fittings
  • The tank is less than 60–70% of its lifespan
  • Repair cost is under 50% of replacement cost
  • The tank is difficult or expensive to access/replace
  • A fibreglass reline can restore the interior fully

Replacement makes more sense when…

  • Structural failure is widespread — not just localised
  • Corrosion has perforated more than 30% of the steel
  • The concrete has carbonated and lost alkalinity throughout
  • Multiple repairs in the last 2–3 years haven't held
  • The tank is at or past its expected service life
  • Repair cost approaches or exceeds replacement cost

We assess every tank honestly and tell you which side of this line you're on — before we quote anything.

Questions People Ask

Straight answers before you decide to book

Most cracked concrete tanks can be repaired rather than replaced. We use epoxy injection for hairline cracks and hydraulic cement for larger structural cracks, followed by waterproof rendering. Full replacement is only necessary when structural integrity is beyond recovery — we assess this honestly and won't push unnecessary work.
Plastic tank repairs depend on the type of plastic and location of the crack. We use plastic welding for polyethylene tanks, specialised bonding compounds for fibreglass, and patch-and-seal methods for minor damage. We always drain and dry the tank before repair to ensure a permanent bond.
We start with mechanical rust removal, then apply a rust converter and primer before coating with food-grade, water-safe anti-corrosion paint. For tanks with perforation, we weld patches before coating. Severely corroded tanks may need fibreglass relining instead — we assess this on site.
Done properly, most repairs last 5–15 years depending on the material and repair type. Fibreglass relining of a concrete tank can extend its life by 20+ years. We use professional-grade materials, not quick fixes, and we back our work with a repair warranty.
Yes. We offer a free on-site assessment to inspect the tank, identify the problem, and give you an honest quote before any work begins. You only pay when you're satisfied with the scope and price.
Most repairs require the tank to be drained and dried first to ensure materials bond properly. We work efficiently to minimise your downtime — and if needed, we can arrange a bulk water delivery to cover you while repairs are underway.
